Date: Saturday 21 March 2015

Time: 06:00pm

“When are the big bands coming back?” People used to ask this question all the time. The fact is, they never left! The timeless big band classics of Miller, Goodman, Shaw, Ellington and Basie still bring people to the dance floor, especially in the capable hands of The Ted Knight Orchestra. This is no “big band sound” based on sequenced backgrounds – it’s real music played on real instruments in real time! Dance to Stardust, Sing Sing Sing, String of Pearls, Take the “A” Train, and for a real treat, Ted’s special arrangement of Glenn Miller’s Jukebox Saturday Night. Plus favorites from Sinatra, Darin, and Ella that will forever be associated with the Big Band Era. Let’s dance!

The Ted Knight Orchestra has been playing for dances, parties and weddings since the 1970s. An article in The Palm Beach Daily News compared the rising young bandleader to the top society bandleaders of the time, Neil Smith, Marshall Grant, and Joe René. Ted’s band played for weddings at the Breakers, the Sailfish Club of Palm Beach, the Boca Raton Resort, the Gulf Stream Golf Club and the Delray Beach Club.

Ted hails from Indiana, where his father, Vic Knight, led the best big band in the state. When Dad moved the family to Delray Beach in 1965 to buy radio station WDBF-AM 1420, he put big bands on the air and his own big band and Dixieland band at choice Florida venues. Ted played piano in his dad’s bands whenever he could, reserving time to lead his own bands with Dad’s complete approval.
